Hi everyone,
I recently shared how ghostwriter Emily Crookston approached me with a challenge: her clients were starting to believe AI could replace professional ghostwriting services. Rather than fight this trend, we decided to lean into it.
The question wasn't whether AI could write—it could generate words just fine. A big part of the challenge is making those words sound like the author, an actual human with a distinctive voice. I struggle with this problem myself because I write so much, and I wanted to use AI to decrease my workload. I tried for months on my own, but still felt that it wasn’t working.
Emily and I realized that it’s not about coming up with the perfect prompt. It’s about incorporating AI in the writing process in the right way. We ended up creating a method around what we call an "AI tonifier"—a set of instructions for a chatbot to make it sound more like what you want to sound. Emily uses it with clients now, it’s part of our reinvention of ghostwriting, as I said in that earlier post.
We have also been using it ourselves in our own writing. For me, my workflow with the tone file decreased my writing time by 30-50% each time.
So we’ve decided to teach others how to do it! Come try it with us! For four weeks, you will get two weekly emails and there will be a weekly live office hour with both of us. This is our trial run so we are charging $27 for and it. The course launches May 14.

Before and after examples
Here’s what it looks like when using Emily’s tone file:
BEFORE (Generic AI):
Using artificial intelligence tools for content creation can significantly enhance productivity. These tools allow writers to generate initial drafts quickly, which can then be refined. However, many professionals express concern about the uniformity of AI-generated content.
AFTER (Tonified AI):
Can AI really write like YOU?
Let's be honest—most AI writing sounds like... well, AI writing. Generic. Safe. Boring as sh*t.
I've been there. You ask ChatGPT to write something, and it gives you a perfectly acceptable paragraph that could have been written by literally anyone. (Not exactly what you had in mind, right?)
